Painting Green - Circular Economy

Closing the chasm between the social, economic and environmental elements (understood as the trifecta of sustainable development), Painting Green provides recycled paint at a discounted price to clients across the UK. In 2022 Painting Green distributed 34,997.5 litres of recycled paint away from landfill and onto the brushes of those who require it. As a result of this work 98,327.31kg of carbon emissions were prevented from entering the atmosphere, reducing air pollution in nearby spatial locales, and mitigating higher volumes of carbon emissions release to combat global climate change.

Established in 2016, the company continues to provide low-cost recycled paint alternatives as opposed to costly alternatives. Partnerships with local housing associations showcase the integrated nature of the relationship between Painting Green and its surrounding community.

Shisia (2018) noted that the environmental impact of paint extends wider than carbon emission footprint, elucidating the effects of leaching paint substances into grounds polluting local water sources. In addition to this, the action of recycling and re-purposing paint aligns nearly with rhetoric shared in the circular economy concept - showcasing an alignment with current academic research. Painting Green addresses each process outlined in this concept, embedding these notions into their business practice. There is a prevailing consideration in Painting Green’s practice to continue progressing positively in the environmental arena by aligning with these notions.

Multiple colour choices are given to clients, an expression of the responsibility Painting Green maintains in allowing users the freedom to choose from a range of colours at a discounted price. Three core values provide foundations to the company’s operations: Availability; Eco-friendly; and Quality. This triad of elements combine under the umbrella of sustainability, further informing their activities, business practices and ethos.

For Earth Day 2022, Painting Green planted flowers in repurposed paint tubs, further extending the lifespan of plastic tubs. This action symbolises the environmentally protective mantra it supports. The company finds progression in its ability to provide clients with an eco-friendly alternative and opportunity to educate clients of the potential environmental issues they have prevented through engaging with Painting Green.
