Big Help CEO, Peter Mitchell, attends meeting at 10 Downing Street

On 8th June 2023, Big Help Project’s CEO Peter Mitchell attended a roundtable at 10 Downing Street on the Value of Charity. The meeting was under the auspices of Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, and held by Myles Stacey OBE. Shining a light on the vital role of the charity sector in the UK and its position in relation to UK Government, the event emphasised the necessary collaboration between the public sector, private sector, and charities to enact effective solutions to the country’s societal issues.

Big Help are delighted to have been recognised and selected as one of the charities invited to this discussion. Our national efforts to help alleviate the impact of poverty – and eliminate factors that exacerbate it – place us in a position from which we are well-equipped to lend our knowledge and experience from the past 12 years, to this discussion.

Myles Stacey OBE is Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, and facilitated this roundtable whilst emphasising the significance of navigating the value of charity through dialogue. Big Help are grateful to have been invited to the event by CEO of Esharelife, Dr Maurizio Bragagni, who has been a supporter of Big Help’s foodbanks. Due to this meeting being held under Chatham House Rules, conversation amongst attendees was more open, and therefore more beneficial to the cause and outcome.

Topics discussed included the use of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence, the significance of updating the curriculum at schools, and the expectations for individuals, charities, the private sector, and others involved in charitable work.

Peter has agreed, and is looking forward, to being part of the specially commissioned group to drive forward this cause with creative strategies that can radically change service delivery and maximise social value for our communities. The event was a success and step in the right direction for conversations involving key players in the charity sector, with the shared value of a strong commitment to helping disadvantaged people in society.
