UK families are reportedly eating less healthily due to cost of living crisis
Amidst the cost of living crisis, families in the UK are reported to be frequently turning to ready meals and processed foods rather than eating healthily. The BBC Good Food Nation survey revealed that more than two-thirds of people considered themselves to be ‘healthy eaters’, however 28% said that they were eating more unhealthy foods as they were too expensive.
In addition to this, the survey found that 60% of people have changed what they eat due to rising costs of ingredients - including 12% who said that they have had to cut back on protein due to struggles with higher food prices.
Over a quarter of the survey respondents said that they had changed their regular supermarket and 4% had used food banks or alternatives to mainstream supermarkets. 68% said that price was the number one contributing factor when choosing a supermarket.
Just last week, discount supermarket chain Aldi reported a record number of UK sales - an extra 1 million customers over the past year - due to cost of living food prices.
