The Big Help takes delivery of vital new food bank equipment thanks to ASDA Fight Hunger Create Change grant funding

Knowsley Foodbank was delighted to receive a delivery of new warehouse equipment this week, which will help the charity to expand its warehouse operation to manage the increase in need in recent months.

The manual handling equipment was funded through a grant from ASDA’s Fight Hunger Create Change grant programme, and was supplied by Winsford-based storage equipment specialists Schoeller Allibert.

Taking delivery of the order this week, Peter Mitchell, Executive Chair of the Big Help Project, which Knowsley Foodbank is part of, said: “These items will make such a difference to the efficiency of the warehouse as we move into what we are expecting will be a winter of high need for the food bank, when being able to manage the stock safely and quickly will be essential. We also thank the team at Schoeller Allibert for their help and advice in choosing the best equipment for our warehouse that was within our budget, and their positive response to learning of the work of the Big Help Project and Knowsley Foodbank.”

In February 2018, Asda, the Trussell Trust, and FareShare launched a new three-year programme, Fight Hunger Create Change that aims to create long term positive change to poverty in the UK.  Part of this programme is grant funding for food banks within the Trussell Trust’s network which has to date provided more than £5.46 million in grants to food banks to help them provide more support to people locked in poverty. These grants have allowed many food banks to provide further practical support like debt and housing advice to help tackle the root causes of poverty in the UK and help ensure that no one needs a food bank again in the future.
